How video extension works
VEO 3.1 reads the end of your clip and generates about 7 seconds that continue it. The credit cost is shown before you confirm, and a failed extension is refunded automatically.

Generate a clip of 8s or less
Create a video of up to 8 seconds with any model, for example a 4, 6 or 8-second VEO 3.1 clip or a 5-second Kling, Hailuo or PixVerse clip.
- Text-to-video or image-to-video
- Source clip must be 8 seconds or shorter
- The clip must have finished generating
- Review the result before extending
- 02
Click "Extend" in your video library
Open the video in your library and choose Extend. Describe how the scene should continue; VEO 3.1 generates the continuation.
- Available in your video library
- Runs on VEO 3.1 (with audio)
- The credit cost is shown before you confirm
- Failed extensions refund their credits automatically
- 03
Get a clip about 7 seconds longer
The extended version (for example 8s → 15s) appears in your library as a new video. Each video can be extended once.
- +7 seconds of continued motion
- Keeps the original aspect ratio
- Saved as a separate video, the original stays
- One extension per video
Which clips qualify
Eligibility depends on length, not on the model: any finished clip of 8 seconds or less can be extended once. The extension keeps the clip's aspect ratio.

Why extend your videos
Extension is useful when a take you like ends a moment too early. It is not a guarantee of better reach; judge the result on your own content.
Finish a clip that ends too early
Let a reveal, pour or product turn play out instead of cutting at 8 seconds.
YouTube Shorts and Reels
Turn an 8-second clip into a 15-second one without starting over, keeping the look of the take you already like.
Product demonstrations
Add a few more seconds to show another angle or the product in use.
Story beats
Describe what happens next and continue the same scene for a short follow-up beat.
Frequently asked questions
Which clips qualify, how long they get, and what happens if an extension fails.
What is Video Extension and how does it work?
Video Extension continues a finished clip. You pick a video of 8 seconds or less in your library, describe how it should continue, and VEO 3.1 generates about 7 more seconds that follow on from the last frames. The result is saved as a new video.
Which videos can I extend?
Any completed video of 8 seconds or less that has not been extended before. That covers 4-8 second VEO 3.1 clips, 5-second Kling, PixVerse and Wan 3.0 clips, 6-second Hailuo 2.3 clips and similar short outputs. Longer clips cannot be extended.
How much does video extension cost?
The credit cost is shown in the Extend dialog before you confirm, and it is charged on top of the original generation. If the extension fails, its credits are refunded automatically.
How long can a video get with extension?
One extension adds about 7 seconds, so an 8-second clip becomes roughly 15 seconds. Each video can be extended once. For longer single takes, Seedance 2.5 generates up to 30 seconds in one shot, and Film Studio assembles several shots into one film.
Can I extend image-to-video outputs?
Yes, as long as the image-to-video clip is 8 seconds or shorter and has finished generating.
Can I upload my own video to extend?
No. Extension works on videos generated in your Viralance library.
What if I do not like the extension?
The original clip stays untouched in your library. Since each video can be extended once, pick the take you like best before extending, and write a short continuation prompt that describes the next beat.
